Torah Registration Event
March 17, 2007
A Torah scroll is our most sacred religious object. Yet how can a Torah be marked for identification without writing in it? Twenty congregants and clergy gathered to learn a halachically-accepted (kosher) method for marking our scrolls. We unrolled each Torah, measured it, marked it with a special code of micro-perforations in very specific places, then re-rolled each one. A record of the special code and details of each Torah will be placed into a databank at the Universal Torah Registry. Thanks to the congregants who took time on Shabbat to mark our Torahs - they made it happen!
