Nat Asch Steve Salny Yvette Diamond Ken Ulman Kol Sasson Michael Berenhaus

Nat Asch - "Professional American Jewish Athletes of the 20th Century"Noted radio sports journalist, Nat will discuss notable Jewish Athletes of the past. Mr. Asch has over 40 years of radio broadcast experience in the New York City, San Francisco and Baltimore markets and has been an adjunct professor at the Baltimore City Community College for 20 years.  He will draw on that vast experience to conjure up fond memories of Jewish sports greats like Marty Glickman and Sam Stoller of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, David Newhan of the Baltimore Orioles, Hank Greenberg, and Sandy Koufax of the Brooklyn Dodgers, to name a few.

Steve Salny - "Michael Taylor: The James Dean of Interior Design".  Salny's unprecedented access to Taylor's clients, associates, and several dozen of Taylor's preserved interiors has enabled him to document the work of  the influential designer, Michael Taylor (1927-1986).  Taylor revolutionized interior design in the 1970s and 1980s with the "California Look" that brought the outdoors inside. Time magazine proclaimed in 1986 that Taylor was "the designer who brought logs,  bark, and wicker inside the home, then stripped the floors, painted walls white and often added an ancient vase to produce an airy, informal yet still classic quality."  Salny is the author of other fine architecture and interior design books.

Yvette Diamond - "Branded D.U.I."   Yvette will show the 30-minute Emmy Award winning documentary that she spearheaded.  Branded D.U.I. gives a powerful message of teens describing what it is like to go to jail, being on probation, losing their driver’s license, missing out on school activities and sports, attending alcohol programs, losing college scholarships, and in the case of two teens, living with the knowledge that they are responsible for taking a life. Branded D.U.I. has been embraced by educators, attorneys, judges, and other State officials, and has been endorsed by the Maryland Judiciary, the Maryland State Department of Education, and the Motor Vehicle Administration. It has been distributed to every high school and college in Maryland, all driver education schools and probation offices, and many other State agencies. It was a joint project of the Administrative Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings.

Ken Ulman - at the age of 32, Ken Ulman was sworn in as Howard County Executive – the youngest County Executive ever elected in the State of Maryland. Ken has been called "smart, committed and focused." In his first two years in office Ulman has followed through on his campaign promise to focus on the basics of good government: public safety, education, and protecting the environment, all of which contribute to the enviable quality of life in Howard County. And that focus has not gone unnoticed, in the past year both Forbes and Money Magazine have ranked Howard County as one of the top places in the country to live.

Kol Sasson - has brought rich and unique entertainment to local and national communities since 1997.  Founded twelve years ago by college students who wanted to share their love of music with the local Jewish community, Kol Sasson has since recorded four original CDs, performed around the country for audiences ranging from religious school children to senior citizens, and provided music at functions spanning from Jewish Simchas to government agency events.  Most notably, Kol Sasson has performed for the National Security Agency, for the 2008 International Hillel Summit, for former Governor of Maryland Robert Ehrlich, and in the White House for Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.  Visit their website at http://www.kolsasson.com.

Michael Berenhaus - "Ethiopian Jews - Those Left Behind".  An Optometrist by trade, Michael frequently visits Israel, and most recently participated in a mission to Ethiopia, experiencing first-hand how the Ethiopian Jews live.  Their neighbors call them Falasha (Intruders/Strangers), but they, are known to themselves and the Jewish community as Beta Yisrael (House of Israel).  The Israeli government has mounted rescue operations, most notably during Operation Moses (1984) and Operaton Solomon (1991).  But there are those who remain in Ethiopia. View amazing photos taken by Michael.  Learn about their struggles, and the efforts to help them.
