  • Susan Wolman received the Dean’s Medal for Distinguished Service from the University of Maryland. Sue serves on the school’s board of advisers, chairs the Social Work Community Outreach Services Community Advisory Boards, serves on the School of Social Work board of advisers and has worked as a field instructor for students. (July, 2008)

  • Baltimore County Environmental Leader, Dr. Joan Plisko, is a recipient of the 31st Annual Tawes Awards for a Clean Environment, according to a May 12 announcement from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Dr. Plisko, Technical Director, Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment was honored in recognition of her environmental volunteerism, talent and stewardship. (July, 2008)

  • At Rabbi Perlmeter’s Farewell visit at North Oaks in March participants also honored Mildred Kern who turned 100 in June. A special thank you to Dr. Edward L. Perl, guest speaker, and Lois Rosenfield and the Family Concerns Committee who co-sponsored the program. (May, 2008)

  • Victor Davis, BHC's Facilities and Food Service Manager, received his license as a Stationary Engineer for the State of Maryland on March 19. Victor also celebrated his 10th year anniversary with BHC in March. (May, 2008)

  • Rabbi Sachs-Kohen and Congregant Susan Elgin were sworn into the Maryland Commission for Women by Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown at the State House on April 3, along with other members of the Commission. The commission studies issues of women in Maryland and makes recommendations to the Governor. (May, 2008)

  • BHC’s Rosh Hashanah Under the Stars was cited as the Jewish Times’ #1 event in its list of 54 favorite people, places and things in Jewish Baltimore. (April, 2008)

  • Johns Hopkins University public health professor and BHC Congregant Dr. Linda Fried was named as the next dean of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in New York. (April, 2008)

  • Leaders of the World Union for Progressive Judaism convened a meeting of its North American Council during the San Diego Biennial and installed its new chair, Helene Waranch. Congratulations Helene! (February, 2008)

  • BHC congratulates Helene Kahn for organizing Syracuse University's "Gift of Life" tzedek program. As chair of the program, Helene's efforts have set the new record for the largest bone marrow recruitment campaign on a college campus! Helene, whose brother Eli is a leukemia survivor, is a sophomore at Syracuse University and the daughter of Marlene Trestman and Henry Kahn.(January, 2008)
