GBLT and same sex couples are embraced at BHC. BHC was one of the first synagogues to have gay and lesbian clergy on staff and was one of the first Reform Jewish congregations to hold same-sex religious marriage ceremonies

On the timeline of 13 noted gay Jewish milestones on a national level, BHC was cited in 1998 as, "Rabbi Peter Kessler and David Herman marry at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, believed to be the first time a rabbi weds a same-sex partner at a Congregation where he serves."
