The Greening of a Temple

Did you know the environmental crisis is a religious challenge? As heirs to a tradition of stewardship that goes back to Genesis and teaches us to be partners in the ongoing work of Creation, we as Jews cannot simply accept the escalating destruction of our environment and its effect on human health and livelihood. Where we are despoiling our air, land, and water, it is our sacred duty to acknowledge our God-given responsibility and take action to alleviate environmental degradation and the pain and suffering that it causes.

BHC's Environmental Task Force was created to take on this challenge. Working with Rabbi Sachs-Kohen, the task force has created three work groups:

  1. "Greening" the Temple
  2. Outreach to our Temple community concerning personal commitments to protecting our environment
  3. Political advocacy on environmental issues

Our work is just beginning and we would be delighted to have additional Congregants of all ages join us in working on this critical issue. For information contact Ruth Crystal, ruth@cramercrystal.com.

It's easy to join the Green Team!

Just commit to at least three environmental actions on a regular basis, preferably one of which you have never done before. Download the commitment card and send it back to BHC's Green Team. Let's make this an overwhelming effort to green our homes, our communities, and out livess.
