President's Message

Philip Abraham, BHC President

BHC is hopping! In April, over 200 young adults from NFTY-MAR held their Kallah here. Brotherhood and Sisterhood will hold their annual meetings and elect new officers. The Religious School will welcome Director Brad Cohen, who is bright, innovative and creative. He will be a wonderful addition to our staff and will help our Religious School continue to grow and flourish.

We have just completed a very successful year at BHC.  Membership is up. My hat is off to Ed Perl, Charles Klein and Aron Perlman; the Annual Giving campaign was a huge success with a dollar-for-dollar matching grant. Many of you have had the opportunity to talk with new Development Director Annette Saxon.  With her guidance, BHC will again have an outstanding Annual Giving campaign while securing BHC’s financial future for ourselves and our children through an increased endowment. Program Director Andy Wayne has been busy working with many different groups in the Congregation.  Andy is building on his success with Chai Life to develop programming for all ages.

As Presidential nominee, I visited as many committee meetings as possible to get a flavor of Congregational activities. What I saw was truly inspirational; committees are made up of members from multi-generational families as well those who are new to BHC. Witnessing volunteers and professionals working so hard, it is easy to understand why I feel so good about our future. They share one common thread: they are all enthusiastic about BHC and its programs. This attitude is contagious and I hope that every member will catch it.

Recently, when speaking to a young leadership group, I mentioned that BHC is not just a building on Park Heights Avenue, it is a Congregation made up of its members. Each and every one of us are the owners of this Congregation. It is up to us to make BHC successful. We must all be ambassadors so that BHC can continue to be a house of worship and gathering for ourselves, our children and our children’s children.
This fall, we intend to have the picture of every Temple officer printed in the Bulletin, along with a short biography.  It is my hope that you will get to know us.
